Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has departed the country for a medical checkup.

It was further gathered that former international ‘Cerezo’ is tackling an old ailment and he is now expected to join the Super Eagles training camp in Abidjan directly from Belgium thereafter.

In Eguavoen’s absence, coaches Fidelis Ilechukwu and Daniel Ogumodede will take charge of this week’s CHAN Eagles training camp in Abuja.

The Super Eagles camp for final 2025 AFCON qualifiers open in Abidjan Sunday.

The Super Eagles will battle second-placed Benin on Thursday, November 14, in their adopted home of Abidjan, before they welcome Rwanda to Uyo on November 18.

Nigeria lead Group D with 10 points from four matches, four points clear of closest rivals Benin.

They will need at least a draw to guarantee qualification to the 2025 AFCON to be hosted by Morocco in December 2025.
