NSCDC FCT Command wins 2024 National Karate Championship in Abuja

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Command, has clinched eight (8) Medals at the just concluded 2024 Silas Agara National Karate championship in Abuja.

According to a press release issued by DSC Monica Ojobi, Acting FCT CDPRO, the “Team NSCDC FCT” at the championship won one (1) Gold Medal, two (2) Silver and (5) Bronze Medals.

The sportsmen and women who represented the Command in different weight categories and won medals at the four days event are; Obasi Faith (Corps Assistant 11) who won 1 Silver and 1 Bronze, Ighalo Monday (Corps Assistant 11) who won 1 Bronze Medal in their first appearance in the individual fight.

Others are, Abah Iyene Prince (ASC 1), who won 1 Bronze Medals, Odika Akudo (Corps Assistant 1) who won 1 Bronze Medal and Bello Hakeem (ASC 1) who won 1 gold and 2 Silver in the individual and team demonstration respectively.

Welcoming the Karate team at the Command Headquarters in Abuja, the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu congratulated them for promoting the name of the Corps and making the FCT Command proud.

“I am very happy and proud of your outstanding performances which is a result of your commitment, constant training and hardwork.

“You have done well and it is a thing of joy that the FCT Command came third place amongst the fifteen agencies and over one hundred athletes that participated keenly in the championship,” Dr. Odumosu stated.

Odumosu expressed satisfaction that the Command was not only making giant strides in the area of protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure but also developing talents that were bringing glory and recognition to the Corps.

He said, “Our Command is not just poised to rid the FCT of vandals of our critical infrastructure and assets, we are also determined to make impact in the area of sports.”

The FCT Commandant used the opportunity to appreciate the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi for providing the much needed support and the enabling environment for the growth of sports in the Corps.

He assured that under his leadership, the sports unit in the FCT Command will be given the needed support, attention and encouragement to thrive in all their sporting engagements.

The FCT Command helmsman, challenged other personnel to discover their potentials and hidden abilities with a view to developing them for their own benefits and that of the Corps at large.

However, two FCT Command personnel, Ikwue Patricia (ASC1) and Abiodun Ige Bamidele (ASC1) were accredited as National officiating referees in the referee category.

The medals won in the Karate Championship was an addition to the number of medals and trophies won by NSCDC FCT sports unit in recent times, among which was the first edition of the Chief of Defence Staff Championship Trophy held at Garki Area 10, Abuja in June this year.

The FCT Defenders Basketball Team also defeated the Nigerian Police at the finals of the Armed Forces, Police and Paramilitary Championship held at the MKO Abiola package B indoor hall of the National stadium, Abuja in April this year to retain the trophy they won last year April back to back.
