The North East Development Commission, NEDC has distributed essential relief materials to vulnerable communities in Adamawa state, including persons with disabilities, PWDs, to alleviate hardship.
The supplies were handed over to the Adamawa State Government, including food items like rice and spaghetti, as well as non-food essentials such as mats, blankets, and children’s clothing particularly for flood victims over the weekend.
NEDC’s Acting Coordinator for Adamawa State, Fatima Bakari, representing Managing Director Mohammed Goni Alkali, stressed on the commission’s commitment to supporting the less privileged.
According to Bakari, religious groups, PWDs, and other vulnerable individuals are expected to benefit from the distribution.
In addition to relief aid, NEDC also supported the state’s agricultural sector by providing machinery, including rice mills, oil press machines, and walking tractors, to the Adamawa Food security committee to enhance food production.
Meanwhile, the commission is also addressing flood prevention by delisting 60,000 meters of drainage systems in the state capital. Capacity-building programs for 400 youths in areas like renewable energy and climate change adaptation have also been launched to empower the region’s future.
Both the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN and Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI have expressed gratitude for NEDC’s timely intervention.
The chairman of the State Food Security Committee, Dishi Kwabe, commended the initiative, ensuring fair distribution of the relief items.
