Many feared dead, properties destroyed in fresh Adamawa herders, farmers’ conflict

An unspecified number of people have been reportedly killed following a clash between herders and farmers in Adamawa State.

The incident reportedly happened at Kukta, Waltandi district in the Song Local Government Area of the state early Sunday morning, according to local sources.

This was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Adamawa State Police, SP Suleiman Nguroje on Sunday.

Nguroje noted that security forces have been deployed to the area to restore normalcy and to arrest perpetrators.

“The Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris has ordered the Homicide section of the State CID (Criminal Investigation Department) Yola, to embark on a detailed and comprehensive investigation into the alleged Herders /Farmers clash resulting to loss of lives and destructions of property which occurred on the 27th of October, 2024.

“The CP is deeply saddened by this unfortunate event as he acknowledges the profound grief and loss caused by this unfortunate act and reassures the Government and Good people of Song local government that perpetrators would be brought to Justice.

“The police Boss directs officers deployed to immediately bring perpetrators to book,” Nguroje said.

Also speaking on the incident a source who pleaded anonymity said, “The conflict actually started some days ago, leading to the death of one farmer and one herdsman.”

“It however escalated when herders struck very early about 4 am on Sunday, moved from house-to-house and killed five persons”, the source added.
