Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja has inaugurated newly elected Executive Councils of the Polytechnic’s Student Union Government (SUG) and National Association of Kogi State Student’s (NAKOSS) for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Prof. Ogbo Usman inaugurated the new Executive Council (Exco) members at the 200-seat capacity Twin Lecture Theatre at the Polytechnic’s main campus in Lokoja.
The Rector charged them to ensure delivery of good governance in their leadership and lead by example on the tenets of probity, accountability and transparency worthy of emulation in their conduct.
He advised the new students’ leaders against adopting divisive approach but should rather, strive to deliver quality leadership saying that the concept of good governance was devoid of ethnic, religious or tribal colorations.
He urged them to sustain the value of their campaigns as true students’ unions that would cater for the yearnings and aspirations of the students and ensure that their welfare remained the focal point adding that for these, they would always be remembered for good.
Prof. Usman commended the electoral committee for conducting a free, fair and transparent election and appreciated the candidates who conceded defeat for their spirit of sportsmanship.
The Rector however advised the winners to avoid “Winner takes it all” disposition of some leaders but should exemplify the attitude of good leadership by carrying everyone along.
He also warned the newly inaugurated executives of both SUG and NAKOSS to guard against being used by mischief makers as he assured that his administration would continue to make the welfare and well-being of students a top priority.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, Electoral Committee Dr Engr. Adamu Mohammed Alaji commended the students for their orderliness and also appreciated the Polytechnic management and members of electoral committee for their support through the process.
In their separate remarks, the Dean, Students Services, Dr John Adavuruku Aliyu; Chief Security Officer of the Polytechnic, Mr Emmanuel Attah Onuh and the Director of Legal Services, Barrister Wiliams Ameh urged SUG/NAKOSS leaders to ensure peace on the campuses.
They implored the new executive members to use their new offices to strengthen peaceful coexistence on the campus, build on the successes of their predecessors and be on the side of the law always as well as be good ambassadors of the institution.
The new President of SUG, Comrade Enimokanyi Oluwadamilola Janet in her acceptance speech appreciated her co-contestants for their spirit of sportsmanship and promised to be magnanimous in victory.
