In a significant development towards addressing the impact of banditry in Katsina State, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration, through the Senior Special Assistant on Victims of Banditry and Internally Displaced Persons, Sa’idu Ibrahim Danja, welcomed nine rescued kidnapping victims on Sunday. The victims were released by the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, under the command of Brigadier General B. O. Omopariola.
The ceremony, held at the 17 Brigade headquarters in Katsina, marked the culmination of efforts by security forces to combat the menace of banditry that has plagued the region. The victims, who hail from Sabuwa, Funtua, and Kurfi Local Government Areas (LGAs), were handed over to the state government in a gesture underscoring the army’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Sa’idu Ibrahim Danja expressed the government’s gratitude for the Nigerian Army’s relentless efforts in securing the release of the kidnapped victims.
He emphasized that the administration of Governor Radda is committed to the safety and rehabilitation of all victims of banditry and pledged continuous support to ensure their reintegration into society.
Following the formal reception, the government arranged for the safe return of the victims to their respective LGAs. Each of the individuals was accompanied by state officials who ensured a smooth transition as they were handed over to their local government chairmen.
To aid their recovery and immediate needs, the state government provided a monetary donation of N100,000 to each victim.
Governor Radda’s administration has been actively working to alleviate the suffering caused by banditry, which has left many communities in distress.
“The support provided to these individuals is part of a broader initiative to assist victims and displaced persons as they rebuild their lives.” Sa’idu Danja stated
The local government chairmen of Sabuwa, Funtua, and Kurfi expressed their appreciation to the state government for its intervention and assistance which will help the victims return to normalcy.
Brigadier General B. O. Omopariola represented by the Army Chief of Staff N.A Con. Yakubu Nwandiscas reiterated the commitment of the 17 Brigade to continue operations aimed at eradicating banditry and ensuring the safety of residents.
He called for greater community cooperation and vigilance to enhance security efforts.
Nigerian PILOT learnt that the successful rescue operation and subsequent handover highlight the continued collaboration between security agencies and the Katsina State Government in addressing the challenges posed by banditry and other security threats. As these victims reunite with their families, the government’s approach underscores the importance of resilience, rehabilitation, and unwavering support for those affected by violence.
