Gov Mutfwang calls for tactical management of Nigeria’s borders to ensure security, prosperity

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has advocated for the implementation of both tactical and digital strategies in the management of Nigeria’s borders to enhance the nation’s security and promote prosperity.

Governor Mutfwang said this while declaring closed the Nigeria Immigration Comptroller General Annual Conference held in Jos on Saturday.

Represented by his deputy, Hon. Mrs. Josephine Piyo, said that the conference addressed various challenges confronting Nigeria in the protection of its borders and the effective management of immigration.

The Governor expressed that the current frameworks for border security are becoming outdated, necessitating innovative approaches to adapt and maintain a competitive advantage. He emphasized that borders encompass more than just land, sea, and air, highlighting the broader implications for Nigeria’s security strategy.

He urged the service to carry forward the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and solidarity and continue to work together toward a future where borders are not barriers, but bridges that connect us to new opportunities and possibilities.

A statement signed by Martha Nyam, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Plateau State reads that earlier, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), emphasized that the NIS will continue to collaborate and synergize with relevant agencies and stakeholders.

She also highlighted the commitment to the deployment of advanced technology to enhance border security and migration management, particularly through the automation of visa issuance and passport application processes.

The Comptroller General noted that the Service will upon resolutions made deploy proactive strategies and sustainable reforms to reposition the Service towards delivering on its statutory mandate and enhancing National Security.
