Renewed cult war between two rival groups, Eiye confraternity and Vikings, has erupted in some parts of Benin, specifically Upper Sakponba Community, resulting in the death of over 20 persons.
Investigation revealed that the cult clash, which is heating up in Idogbo areas of the upper Sakponba Ikpoba okha local government area of Edo state, has led to a shooting spree in that area, which has affected business activities.
It was gathered that the clash, which started due to a misunderstanding among friends belonging to rival cult groups, quickly spread to city centres with little or no resistance from security agencies.
A call put across to the police Image maker, DSP Moses, yielded little to no result as he said he was on his way to Auchi over the kidnap of a Reverend Father.
However, the situation is now causing apprehension among the people and other well-meaning individuals.
When contacted, the Police spokesman in Edo, Moses Joann Yamu confirmed the incident, disclosing that the police have arrested no fewer than thirteen suspects.
He added that the suspects will be charged to court on completion of investigation. Meanwhile, fear of the unknown has gripped residents of Upper Sakponba and its environs following the continued cult war which also has seen various streets in the areas deserted even during nightfall. But the Police have assured that it will do everything possible to protect the lives and properties of the people.
