Benue: PDP conducts state congress, elects new officials

People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Benue State chapter, has elected former House of Representatives Member for Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency, Chief Ezekiel Adaji as its new chairman.

Chief Adaji was elected at the state congress of the party which started at about 8:00 am and ended at 6:12 pm.

Announcing the results, Chairman of the Benue PDP Congress Electoral Committee, Alhaji Shaba Ibrahim, said Chief Ezekiel Adaji scored 2482 votes and was declared winner.

With his emergence, he now heads the new 27-member State Executive Committee of the party who were elected with him.

Other officials elected at the State congress included the State Secretary, Comrade.Dan Nyikwagh, State Public Secretary, Hon Tim Nyor, Youth Leader, Ibya Terkimbi and Women leader, Mrs. Alice Albert, amongst others.

They were immediately sworn in by the Caretaker Committee Legal Officer, Barr Friday Ejembi.

In his acceptance speech on behalf of the newly inaugurated State Working Committee, SWC, Chief Adaji, said he is overwhelmed by the massive show of support given to them by members of the party.

He said “Our state is in need of leadership and my state EXCO will not disappoint the party to ensure it bounced back to power.”

“We are going to hit the ground running and we shall reconcile all aggrieved members of the party as we intend to set up a reconciliation committee immediately”, he said.

Alhaji Shaba said the congress had a total delegates list of 2910 while 2900 was accredited for the state congress.
