Bauchi records huge success in measles vaccination

The ongoing Integrated Vaccination camping for measles and polio for children under five has recorded a huge success, three days after its commencement across the state.

It could be recalled that UNICEF BAUCHI Field Office and other implementing partners have extended support to the Bauchi State Government in conducting the integrated immunisation exercise against measles and polio for children under 5 years.

The exercise which was concluded over the weekend across the state, has recorded a huge success when a team of health reporters inspected some health facilities in Bauchi local government.

Speaking on the exercise, the immunization focal person for Miri ward in Bauchi Local Government Area, Umar Abdullahi Ningi said that the target for measles vaccination was 7,100 while there was no specific target for the oral Polio vaccination which was administered in 97 settlements.

Umar Ningi stated that this year’s vaccination exercise was the most successful as the rate of non-compliance has reduced drastically.

At Dan Amar 1 ward, the immunization focal person reveals that the target for measles vaccination in the area was 5,006 children under 5 while the target for oral Polio vaccination was 9,529.

He said within three days of the commencement of the exercise a total of 1,145 children were immunized for measles while 7,555 children received oral Polio vaccination.
