A’Ibom announces N80,000 minimum wage for workers

Akwa Ibom State Government has announced an N80,000 minimum wage for public sector workers in the state in line with the recent agreement between Organized Labour and the Federal Government.

A statement from the state Constitutes Information commissioner Comrade Ini Ememobong made available to newsmen in Uyo on Wednesday also announced the constitution of an Implementation Committee for the new wage regime.

The committee, which has been given one month to deliver its report on how the wage increase would be implemented is chaired by the Head of the Civil Service, Mr

Other members include the Chairman, State Civil Service Commission,Chairman, Local Government Service Commission

,Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Permanent Secretary, Department of Establishments, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning and the Solicitor General, Ministry of Justice.

Others include the state Accountant General, Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Civil Service, Director of Budget, State Chairman, Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, Secretary, Joint Public Sector Negotiating Council, State Chairpersons, Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress and the State President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE)

The release said the announcement is a reflection of the state government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its workforce.

The announcement would also douse the tension and apprehension among workers over the state government’s silence on a new minimum wage for state workers after Governor Umo Eno promised to do so during the last workers day celebration.
