Ondo court remands teenager over boss death

Precious Kolawole, a teenager who was arrested by the police, in connection with the murder of his boss, Debbie Iyabo Adene, 54, has been remanded in Olokuta Correctional Facility.

An Akure Magistrates’ Court ordered the remand of the defendant, following an application for his remand which wasbrought by the police prosecutor, Inspector Folashade Adeyemi.

The deceased, an Akure-based caterer was hacked to death at her residence in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on July 25, 2024, five days after her birthday.

The police charged Kolawole, a domestic worker in the deceased’s house, with three counts of conspiracy, murder and theft.

The prosecutor, Inspector Folashade Adeyemi, told the court that the defendant, on July 25, 2024, at about 5 pm, in Akure, conspired with others at large to kill a woman, Iyabo Adene, who was his boss.

The defendant during police investigation had confessed to committing the alleged offences but blamed some unseen spirits.

The charge reads in part: “That you, Precious Kolawole, ‘m’ on July 25, 2024, at about 5 pm, beside Okiki Jesu Petrol Station, Oda Road, Akure, in the Akure Magisterial District, did conspire with others to commit a felony, to wit murder.

“That you, Precious Kolawole, on the same date, time, and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did machete one Iyabo Adene, to death with a cutlass.

The offences, according to the charge, contravene Sections 390(1), 324, and 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Law of Ondo State, 2006.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in any of the correctional centres in the state, pending advice from the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Magistrate O. Omotosho, who did not take the plea of the defendant, ordered that he be remanded in the correctional centre.
